Imagine Chase County is proud to announce the launch of a new community volunteer opportunity and partnership with our students and USD 284. Adult volunteers are sought to help supervise school bus drop off points in Chase County.

The lack of adult supervision at a local school bus drop off was discussed at a recent Imagine Chase County steering committee meeting. Light bulbs went off around the table. Shelly Burkhart, co-convener of the Intergenerational Volunteer program, inquired about a partnership with USD 284 and the wheels started turning. 'It was a real public square moment,' remembered Kevin Ireland, member of the steering committee, 'having the right people around the table made it all possible.'

Working with District Superintendent Greg Markowitz, Mrs, Burkhart and her action team established 2010-11 Bylaws, for a School Volunteer Program. The programs mission statement is "to provide no-cost, effective, productive and positive volunteer support to the educational mission of and the students served by USD 284." This partnership and Bylaws were conditionally approved at the Board of Education Meeting on November 16th, 2010.

The Imagine Chase County Intergenerational Action Team invites community members to join us in our partnership and our on-going commitment to our students and schools. You can sign up here. The program is planned to begin in January of 2011.
